Puppy PreSchool
“The house-training, the biting, the leash-walking…these are all nightmares!” are the words I usually hear from new puppy owners. Believe it or not, these problems can all be fixed pretty easily. You just need some help…from me.
What most puppy owners don’t understand is that this 8-16 week period is one of the most important periods in your puppy’s life. Your little one’s brain is like a hard drive being imprinted, or a sponge being saturated, during this time. We want to insure as many positive and varied experiences as possible so you raise a balanced and brave dog.
This early exposure is so vital that the American Veterinary Association put out a position statement saying:
“Incomplete or improper socialization during this important time can increase the risk of behavioral problems later in life, including fear, avoidance, and/or aggression. Behavioral problems are the greatest threat to the owner-dog bond. In fact, behavioral issues are the number one reason for relinquishment to shelters. Behavioral issues, not diseases, are the number one cause of death in dogs under three years of age.”
So what is Puppy PreSchool?
- Four sessions rotating so you can join in at any time; when possible, we have supervised puppy play
- hands-on activities to help with play-biting, handling, grooming, first aid, puppy neurological and physical development and more
- the goal is to avoid future behavioral problems while creating a great dog and a happy owner
- Puppy PreSchool is very family, ie child, friendly too so we talk about how to read dogs and what to and not to do with our dogs
