Behavior Modification

Solutions for reactivity, anxiety, and problem behaviors

Helping Dogs Overcome Challenges & Make Better Choices

Some dogs struggle with stress, anxiety, or reactive behaviors that make everyday life difficult—for both them and their owners. At K9SOL, I offer Behavior Modification programs that focus on conditioned relaxation and perception modification to help dogs develop calm, confident behavior.

I use Training Between the Ears (TBTE), a proven method developed by Mark McCabe, which goes beyond obedience training to help dogs make good choices on their own rather than simply following commands for rewards.

What Makes TBTE Different?

Beyond Obedience – Unlike traditional training that reinforces behaviors (whether positive or balanced), TBTE helps dogs change their mindset and break free from behavioral ruts.

Focus on Emotional Stability – Before a dog can consistently make good choices, we address the emotions driving the behavior—fixing what’s “between the ears.”

Balanced & Effective Approach – TBTE uses:

Vocal Markers (e.g., "Yes!") to reinforce progress
Vocal Bridges to guide dogs from stress to success
Mild Corrections (e.g., a squirt bottle) to interrupt negative behaviors
Food Rewards to encourage relaxation and positive choices

Key Goals of TBTE

Teach Dogs to Self-Regulate – Dogs learn Conditioned Relaxation (CR) and Behavioral Downs (BDs) to calm themselves without constant intervention.

Help Dogs Make Good Choices – Instead of just obeying commands, dogs learn to choose desirable behaviors even when the owner isn’t present.

Improve Owner-Dog Communication – Whether through TBTE, traditional obedience, or a custom blend of both, clear communication is the foundation of successful behavior change.
